The Lazarist Monastery

The first Lazarists arrived at Mirenski Grad in 1913. They settled in the curate’s house, which stood at the site of the former hermits’ residence. In 1914 a new building by the church was built for the community of Lazarists and for spiritual retreats, and it was named the Mission Building. During World War I the building was destroyed. At the end of the war, the Lazarists moved back to curate’s house and restored the Mission Building. Unfortunately, soon after that, the building was once again destroyed, this time by fire during World War II. After the war, the Lazarists chose to stay in the curate’s house. They named their new residence the Lazarist monastery and they expanded it three times, most recently in 1995. In 1970 the Gnidovec Spiritual Retreat was built by the monastery and in 1991 a part of the attic of the monastery was converted into a chapel for its guests.
